Domaine Georges Glantenay
Domaine Georges Glantenay, located in Volnay within Burgundy's Côte de Beaune region, is a family-owned winery with a lineage tracing back to the 17th century. The estate was officially established in 1893 by Pierre Glantenay and has since been passed down through generations. Currently, the fifth generation, siblings Guillaume and Sarah Glantenay, manage the domaine; Guillaume oversees viticulture and winemaking, while Sarah handles sales and operations.
The domaine spans approximately 10 hectares, encompassing 16 different appellations. Its vineyards are primarily situated in Volnay and Pommard, with additional plots in Chambolle-Musigny. Notably, many of these vineyards boast old vines planted by their grandfather, Georges, during the 1950s and 1960s, resulting in an average vine age exceeding 60 years.
In terms of viticulture, Domaine Georges Glantenay employs sustainable practices, including hand-harvesting and meticulous sorting to ensure grape quality. The winemaking approach emphasizes purity and elegance, characterized by gentle maceration techniques and restrained use of new oak during aging. This philosophy aims to produce wines that are approachable in their youth yet possess the structure to age gracefully.
Polaner Selections
The domaine's portfolio showcases a range of wines that reflect the distinct terroirs of their respective appellations. Their Volnay offerings are renowned for elegance and aromatic complexity, often displaying notes of red berries and violets. In contrast, the Pommard wines exhibit a more robust structure with darker fruit profiles. The Chambolle-Musigny selections are celebrated for their finesse and delicate floral aromas.
Through a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation, Domaine Georges Glantenay continues to produce wines that authentically express the unique characteristics of Burgundy's esteemed terroirs.
